April 6 marked a day I’d been eagerly awaiting—a trial visit to Expo 2025 Osaka. It was my first Expo experience since the 2005 Aichi Expo, and the moment I stepped through the entrance, that same childhood excitement came rushing back.
Moving further inside, I was amazed by the rows of corporate pavilions showcasing cutting-edge technologies, all set against the backdrop of a towering grand roof. During this visit, I had the opportunity to tour the “Sumitomo Pavilion” under the guidance of its producer and deputy director.
Sumitomo Pavilion Concept: Sustainable Timber and a Forest Journey
The Sumitomo Pavilion’s exterior is made primarily from timber planted decades ago, perfectly reflecting its core theme. In line with these sustainability efforts, the pavilion also plans to plant 10,000 trees in collaboration with Expo visitors, underscoring its commitment to a circular, eco-friendly future.
Once inside, you’re handed a lantern and invited to explore “UNKNOWN FOREST,” a space that recreates the sensations and discoveries of a real forest using advanced technology. You can literally feel the humidity, wind, and the ground beneath your feet. By uncovering hidden interactive features, you experience the forest’s ecosystem firsthand and are reminded of how closely connected we are with the natural world.
Next, a theater presentation and AI-driven exhibit highlight the Sumitomo Group’s various technologies, prompting you to reflect on how these insights might influence our lives. In the attached shop, you’ll find products utilizing Sumitomo’s innovations and sustainably sourced timber—perfect keepsakes to help you remember your time in this remarkable forest-like setting even after the Expo ends.
A “Forest Experience” for the Whole Family
The Sumitomo Pavilion’s “forest experience” seems tailor-made for sparking children’s curiosity about nature. For our company—where preserving the culture of unit baths is a central mission—this comprehensive, immersive encounter offered countless insights and inspiration.
Across the Expo, numerous countries and companies showcase their unique concepts through striking architecture and cutting-edge technology. It’s easy to get carried away by the visual spectacle, but experiencing each pavilion’s deeper theme—like we did at the Sumitomo Pavilion—truly enriches your visit.
Tips for Enjoying Expo 2025 Osaka
Reserve Your Pavilion Visits
Popular pavilions can fill up quickly, so it’s wise to book in advance once you’ve secured your Expo tickets.
Plan Your Dining in Advance
Many restaurants require reservations and may not accept walk-ins, so be sure to plan ahead.
Keep Your Smartphone Charged
You’ll rely on your phone for everything from navigation and reservations to cashless payments. Bring a portable charger or rent one at the Expo.
Store Large Bags at the Station or Hotel
Security checks are as thorough as those at airports. Avoid delays by leaving bigger luggage off-site; on-site lockers are limited.
These insights come from our recent test-run visit, where we marveled at the fusion of forward-thinking technology and awe-inspiring natural elements.
