My name is Kobayashi, CEO of MEGAVAX Inc., the company behind REREPA — a certified installer and on-site survey contractor for TOTO products. As we navigate the order suspension triggered by the situation in the Middle East, I would like to share the history of our company and my personal thoughts on this moment.
34 Years with Unit Bathrooms — Starting on a Jobsite in Yokohama
In 1985, at the age of 19, I began my career as a TOTO unit bathroom installer in Yokohama. The master craftsman who mentored me during those early years is still with our company today, serving as our COO.
In 1992, I founded MEGAVAX Inc. as a unit bathroom installation company. This year marks our 34th anniversary.
Facing Hardship Together with TOTO
We have enjoyed a long-standing partnership with TOTO and their primary distributors. As a core provider of on-site surveys and installation services within the unit bathroom industry, we have overcome numerous challenges side by side — from dispatch teams sent to support recovery efforts after the 1995 Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, to the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, the 2008 global financial crisis, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Through every one of these crises, we worked in step with TOTO’s response efforts.
We Are Installation Experts, Not Simply Coordinators
A typical remodeling company receives an order from a customer, then outsources both the on-site survey and the actual installation to distributors and wholesalers — effectively operating as a coordination-only business.
MEGAVAX, the company behind REREPA, works differently. We are a team of genuine installation professionals — certified contractors for TOTO and other major manufacturers, with a proven track record across bathroom and kitchen remodeling. We have formed alliances with companies that hold strong customer bases, including Tokyo Gas, Bic Camera, and Shizuoka Gas, providing outsourced bath and kitchen renovation services on their behalf. This trusted track record was recognized by Rakuten Ichiba and Yahoo! Shopping, who approached us to launch a points-earning bathroom renovation service on their platforms.
Respect for TOTO’s Courage and Swift Recovery
When the Middle East situation disrupted supply chains, TOTO was the first manufacturer to publicly announce a suspension of new orders — a decision that required real courage. And within just one week, they resumed accepting orders. As a certified installer who has worked alongside TOTO for decades, we have deep respect for the teams who worked without rest to make that recovery possible.
We are also grateful to the many other manufacturers who have reached out daily to discuss alliance opportunities, reflecting the spirit of industry-wide cooperation taking shape.
